Income Data Services (IDS) has forecast an 8% increase in the number of graduate roles advertised this year, up from a rise of just 0.1% in 2012. The retail sector is predicting as much as a 30% increase in the number of vacancies, however vacancies in sectors such as legal and finance are likely to fall.
Starting salary freezes are likely to mean that the average joining salary for university leavers will remain at £25,500 until 2014. However, for those graduates who stand out during the recruitment process and secure positions in the legal or finance sector, average starting salaries are considerably higher – £36,500 a year for legal graduates and £29,250 in the finance sector.
With top starting salaries at stake, if you’re looking for a graduate role in finance or the legal profession, ensuring your CV and interview skills are the best they can is a shrewd investment.
